Three Ballet Masters To Teach Classes - Open to the Public

Area Studio Announces April Master Class Series.

Greensboro, NC (April 7, 2015) - Artistic Motion School of Arts announces their April 2015 Ballet Master Class Series beginning Sunday, April 12, 2015.

The Ballet Master Class Series will be offered the last three Sundays of April and is open to AGES 12 - ADULT. Class will be held from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm and will be led by three world-renown ballet instructors. Cost is $40 per class and pre-registration is strongly encouraged as space is limited.

"These Master Classes offer area dancers the opportunity to learn and train with some of the best professionals available within the world of ballet," says Natalya Davison, Artistic Motion Executive Director. "I am excited that we are able to host these artists and provide an environment that encourages and fosters learning and growth in young dancers.

The April 2015 Master Series will include:

  • SUNDAY, APRIL 12 - BALLET MASTER CLASS with SARKIS KALTAKHTCHIAN – 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.
    Mr Kaltakhtchian performed professionally with Armenian National Ballet, Ballets Classique de Montreal, Banff Festival of the Arts, Classical Ballet of Costa Rica, Ottowa Ballet, Hartford Ballet, Charlotte Ballet, and Tulsa Ballet Theatre during his career. In July 1998, Mr. Kaltakhtchian performed for First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton at the White House Millennium Council. He started teaching, while still dancing, under the guidance of Maxim Martirosian, former Artistic Director of Bolshoi Ballet School. Mr. Kaltakhtchian is currently the Artistic Vice-Principal of Charlotte Ballet Academy.
  • SUNDAY, APRIL 19 - BALLET MASTER CLASS with CHRISTINE SPIZZO – 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.
    Ms. Spizzo trained at the San Francisco Ballet School, the NC School of the Arts (now UNCSA), and the School of American Ballet in New York. As a soloist with American Ballet Theatre (ABT), Ms. Spizzo appeared in numerous Live Lincoln Center and Dance in America telecasts, as well as the Herbert Ross films “The Turning Point” and “Dancers,” and in Baryshnikov’s “Nutcracker” and “Don Quixote” video films. Ms. Spizzo was a principal dancer with Ballet Arizona from 1988-1990 and with the Nureyev & Friends North American tour in 1990. She performed in the Broadway company of “Phantom of the Opera” from 1990-2000, and during that time was an adjunct professor at NYU and SUNY/Purchase. She served as Artistic Coordinator of ABT’s inaugural Summer Intensive Program and has remained a principal teacher in all subsequent ABT Summer Intensives (NYC, NC, Austin, TX). In 2000, Spizzo joined the dance faculty at UNCSA, where she worked for 10 years, receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2006. She taught in the School of the Arts’ Preparatory Dance Program for several years, and is now an adjunct professor of dance at UNCSA.
  • SUNDAY, APRIL 26 - BALLET MASTER CLASS with MISHA TCHOUPAKOV – 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.
    Mr. Tchoupakov was a former dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet. He has taught for Houston Ballet, Royal Ballet School in London, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Guangzhou Ballet of China, Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, and more. He has been a guest teacher in Brazil, Japan, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, and Great Britain. Mr. Tchoupakov has served as a judge and master teacher for Youth America Grand Prix Competition in the US, Japan, and France, as well as other dance competitions. He is currently on faculty at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

Artistic Motion Preparatory Academy (AMPA) is a pre-professional ballet training program founded in the Triad by Executive Director, Natalya Igitkhanyan Davison in 2014. AMPA classes are based on the Vaganova syllabus and are led by an internationally acclaimed faculty including alumni from Russia's Moscow State University of Dramatic Art and The Bolshoi Ballet Academy, the Dominican Republic's Acadamia de Ballet Santo Domingo, The Republic of Georgia's Music Academy, and the University of North Carolina's School of the Arts. Instructors are veterans of the stage and have danced professionally with the Bolshoi Ballet, the National Ballet of the Dominican Republic, the National Ballet of Armenia, Joffrey Ballet, Houston Ballet, Boston Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, and Maryland Ballet.

AMPA is committed to providing excellence in dance instruction in order to mold and develop artists who are prepared technically, physically, morally, and emotionally to enter the world of professional dance. Our curriculum is founded on the Vaganova ballet syllabus and is accentuated with classes in tap, jazz, contemporary, and character dance, as well as music and dramatic arts.
