School Participates in Cultural Exchange with Dominican Republic for Performance

Greensboro, NC (May 26, 2015) – Artistic Motion School of Arts (AMSA) is proud to announce a joint venture with the National Ballet of the Dominican Republic in AMSA’s presentation of Esmeralda, based on The Hunchback of Notre Dame. This AMSA production will feature four guest artists and will be performed on May 30th at 6:00 pm and May 31st at 2:00 pm.

The Dominican Republic has sent two of its graduating dancers to perform in the United States as part of a cultural exchange with Artistic Motion School of Arts and AMSA’s spring production of Esmeralda. Engels Josè Mendez, 18, will perform the role of Pheobus; and Juan Alexis Abreu, 22, will perform the role of Acteon. Both dancers are in the final level (8th) of the National School of Dance of the Dominican Republic (ENDANZA). They have been dancing for three years as apprentices of the National Ballet of the Dominican Republic.

Also joining in the performances are Joe Blocker, performing in the role as Acteon, and Katrina Blose, performing as Diana. Blocker is a junior at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. This is Blocker’s debut performance with AMSA. Blose is a current faculty member of the Artistic Motion Preparatory Academy (AMPA), a pre-professional ballet training program located in Greensboro.

“We are so excited to be able to present this show to our community,” says Natalya Davison, Artistic Motion Executive Director. “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with dancers from other schools and look forward to seeing the community response. As a school, we strive to expand the vision and the cultural awareness of ourselves and our community, and these partnerships offer a unique learning opportunity for our guest artists, as well as our own dancers.”

Esmeralda will be performed on Saturday, May 30th at 6:00 pm and Sunday, May 31st at 2:00 pm. Mendez (as Pheobus) and Blose (as Diana) will perform in both shows. Abreu (as Acteon) will perform in the Saturday, 6:00 pm show; Blocker (as Acteon) will perform in the Sunday, 2:00 pm show. Performances will be held in Sloan Theatre at Greensboro Day School, 5401 Lawndale Drive, Greensboro, NC.
